Lyon vs Juventus Preview

Although they do not lose many games the Champions League recently - especially at home - Rudi Garcia's team just celebrated six victories in 28 matches in this competition.

Instead, the Bianconeri have won each of their last five matches in Europe, and will sure make that six in a row here.

Spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo fresh from equaling the Serie A record of scoring in 11 consecutive games, Italy look too experienced and too strong for Lyon team that lost some important players.

Olympique Lyon

Lyon is more than capable of producing attacking masterclass. But, given the offensive weapons Juventus have, coach Garcia is likely to take an approach that is more carefully and try your best to not concede an away goal that would give Italy a big advantage into the second leg.
That makes the two central defenders in Jason Denayer and Joachim Andersen is an important part of this equipment. Operates at the heart of the back four, the second will look to defend deep and prevent the opposition from making a breakthrough in the penalty box.

Marcal, meanwhile, began as a center back left side in the win over Metz. However, the Brazilian could return to the customary left back with Garcia tend to revert to the back four. Kenny Tete will operate on the opposite side.

Lyon signed Bruno Guimaraes in the winter transfer window. However, the duo Thiago Mendes and Lucas Tousart to form the second row of the press for the home team. Their performance can be important in preventing Juventus midfielder technically astute of making an impact on the process.

Unfortunately for Garcia, star Memphis Depay man out injured along with Jeff Reine-Adelaide. That means Martin Terrier can operate on the left wing, in partnership with Bertrand Traore on the opposite flank and houssem Aouar in the middle, thus forming Lyon creative unit while the attack will be led by Moussa Dembele.

Possible Lineup (4-2-3-1): Lopes; Tete, Andersen, Denayer, Marcal; Tousart, Mendes; Traore, Aouar, Terrier; Dembele

Juventus

Juventus have been boosted by the return of Gonzalo Higuain, Miralem Pjanic and Giorgio Chiellini to the ranks. Chiellini made a return from injury against SPAL, while Pjanic and Higuain has trained this week and traveled to France with the squad. It will be interesting to see whether Maurizio Sarri thrusting them back into action immediately.

Chiellini certainly will not start this time, mean defensive duo Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt could continue in central defense. Maurizio Sarri can also survive with Danilo at right-back ahead of Mattia de Sciglio while Alex Sandro is a guaranteed starter on the opposite side.
The potential for Pjanic, meanwhile, should pave the way for Rodrigo Bentancur to retain his place in the holding midfield slot. He will be tasked with the responsibility of sweeping the loose ball and give a sense of security to the backline.

Also in midfield, Aaron Ramsey is expected to keep his place, but the same can not be said for Blaise Matuidi, who may be replaced by compatriot Adrien Rabiot. It will be interesting to see how this did France on his return to France.

And finally, can Juventus attack led by Cristiano Ronaldo. But, with Higuain doubt, Sarri could survive with a 4-3-3 setup, which means the Portuguese sensation is tipped to partner with Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa, although Juan Cuadrado is also an option.

Possible Lineup (4-3-3): Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, de Ligt, Sandro; Rabiot, Bentancur, Ramsey; Dybala, Ronaldo, Costa

Prediction

Lyon is a firm underdog in this match. They are unbeaten in three but have won only two of their last six matches in all competitions. However, they have not lost at home since before Christmas, unbeaten in seven at home.

Juventus have only won one of their last four on the road but anything other than victory in France would not be deemed accepted by the high standard of the Old Lady. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in nine straight games in all competitions and in 16 of 18 events last for club and country.
