Sevilla made a winning return to action La Liga earlier this month with a 2-0 victory over local rivals Real Betis, but since then they have only picked up four points from a possible 12.
In addition to playing a respectable draw with Barcelona, Los Nervionenses have lost points against Levante, Villarreal and Real Sociedad.
The draw with Sociedad Friday fate was probably a point gained in many ways, though, as Lucas Ocampos scored from the penalty spot seven minutes from time to cancel the first half of Kiko Olivas goal.
The succession of Seville leaves break a deadlock - unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions - fourth in the table and now only five points ahead of Getafe, who play their game against Sociedad Monday.
Finishing in the top four was always the aim of Lopetegui, but in a season that saw Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona fight, it could well be a case of what might have been had his side shown a little consistency at a time.
Tuesday's trip to the Spanish capital killed at least provide Sevilla with a chance to get back to winning against Leganes a side who have won just one of their last 10 games.
This victory came against Villarreal in their last game before the break forced coronavirus. Since returning to action, Los Pepineros lost three and drawn two.
Saturday's defeat at Osasuna was as cruel as they come, with Enric Gallego winning goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time at El Sadar Stadium.
Leganes are now seven points from safety, a gap that could widen should Eibar 17 instead seek a positive result in their game in hand against Granada on Sunday.
Anyway, Javier Aguirre's side are running out of time to put wins on the board. After four seasons in La Liga, a return to the second level seems increasingly likely.

Leganes are winless since Laliga back again running, drawing twice and losing three times.
Last time at home, the Aguirre side took a point away from Granada, but scoring goals is proving a big problem for the hosts.
Sevilla have drawn their last four consecutive league games but remain unbeaten since resumed Laliga.
