Blackburn won his first match back after the season championship resumed last month - a 3-1 win over Bristol City at home - almost to the point of the playoffs.
Since then, however, they lost to Wigan Athletic, Barnsley and Leeds United, seeing them go down to 11th place in the division.
Such is the position occupied Cardiff on their return to action, but they have been in superb form in recent weeks and are on track for a top-six finish.
Going further back, it is four wins and two draws for the Welsh outfit in their last six matches, not only see them climb into the playoffs, but also build a three-point buffer on the chasing group.
The most recent of those victories came away to Severnside rivals Bristol City on Saturday, with lock Danny Ward on a pass from fellow substitute Lee Tomlin to fire home a late winner.
Neil Harris's men now face three successive games against sides chasing them down, but, starting with the visit of Blackburn.
Another thing three points for Rovers complete their slim hope of promotion, and recent history suggests that they will have the chance to walk away from South Wales with a win.
The Blue and White have failed to win any of their last 10 meetings with Cardiff since a 3-2 FA Cup in January 2005.
Blackburn are winless in four matches on their travels, losing the last three of those without scoring a single goal.
Cardiff were not exactly endemic form on the floor of the house, but, after picking up maximum points only once in six league games at Cardiff City Stadium.

Ben Brereton remains suspended for the visitors while Corry Evans and Bradley Dack are still not injured.

Blackburn lost, but one of their last five league games. The only win came against Bristol City is placed at mid-table. But the most shocking result was the defeat away to relegation placed Barnsley. Meanwhile, Cardiff has not lost a match in the league since February. Thus, based on their home form I support the hosts to get three points in it.
In three losses to backtrack Blackburn could not net at least one goal. Two of those games were against Barnsley is in relegation and the other was Wigan. If they could not score, I can not see past two of the weakest defenses in the competition's scoring Tuesday.
